About the position

About ESP:

The European Strategic Policy unit (ESP) is Euro Prospects’ dedicated think tank, and its most ambitious project. ESP produces forward-facing and policy-actionable analysis on European strategic sovereignty: how the EU can strengthen its position across defence, technology, trade, energy, industry, and digital infrastructure.

ESP is selective, collaborative, and built around the conviction that policy decisions made in Europe today will define the continent’s geopolitical role in the 21st century.

This is the founding cohort. The people joining now will shape what ESP is.

About Euro Prospects:

Euro Prospects (EP) is an independent online journal covering European politics and policy, run by a community of students and early-career professionals from across Europe and beyond.

The role:

As a Strategic Policy Analyst at ESP, you will research and author policy briefs (concise, recommendation-driven papers addressed to policymakers). You will peer-review colleagues’ work and help shape ESP’s research agenda as part of a close-knit founding team. Together, ESP produces Euro Prospects’ highest quality content.

Baseline commitment is one policy brief every two months, manageable alongside full-time study or work.

What you receive:

Named authorship on published work, retained permanently. A credible institutional affiliation for CV and graduate or think tank applications. A letter of recommendation from the ESP Head upon request. Real ownership over a unit being built from the ground up.

What we’re looking for:

We are recruiting five to seven founding analysts.

We are looking for people who have a keen interest in EU politics and institutions, combined with a strong grounding in one or more of the following:

  • International relations and diplomacy
  • Geopolitical risk
  • Security and defence
  • Political economy
  • EU or international law
  • Technology policy
  • Energy
  • Industrial policy

An ESP Strategic Policy Analyst should have:

  • Excellent analytical writing
  • Genuine intellectual interest in European strategic policy
  • A track record of delivering on commitments.

We are actively seeking a diverse founding cohort in terms of nationality, disciplinary background, and policy expertise.

This is an unpaid, volunteer role.
