Europe in the Indo Pacific Analyst, Security & Defence Unit (S&D) • Mariona is a Risk Consultant at Modelverse, a cybersecurity and compliance startup based in The Hague, where she advises on European regulatory frameworks including NIS2, GDPR, and DORA. Her work sits at the intersection of European cybersecurity regulation, hybrid threats, and East Asian security policy. A researcher by training, she has made East Asia and the Indo Pacific a defining thread of her trajectory: her undergraduate thesis analysed the evolution of Japan’s security and defence paradigm. This foundation later led her to collaborate with Oxford Analytica as a Contributing Researcher, where she examined North Korean foreign information manipulation and interference (FIMI) operations, research that bridged her regional focus with her expertise in hybrid threats. Her engagement in the region has been practical as well as academic: as a former intern at Casa Asia in Barcelona, she supported the institution’s general management and coordinated bilateral diplomatic forums, from content preparation to institutional relations and liaison with official delegations. She holds a degree in International Relations from the Autonomous University of Barcelona and a Master’s in Crisis and Security Management, specialising in Cybersecurity Governance, from Leiden University, and speaks native Catalan and Spanish, fluent English and French, and has studied Mandarin for four years.
