However, despite the seemingly recent nature of these debates, geopolitics has been one the main driving forces of European integration since its inception after the end of WWII. This article series will cover the historical development of the EU as a geopolitical actor from the inception of European integration in the wake of WWII up to the present day, starting with the period between 1945 and 1970.
